Hi, I’m Nicholas Coury, founder of Nicholas Coury Photography in Orange County, California. I specialize in headshots, portraits, and interior photography. Before starting my own company, I worked as a portrait photographer for other studios, where I learned how to create a comfortable, relaxed environment and bring out the best in every person I photographed.

My style is very laid-back and non-pushy. I want people to feel like they can just breathe, be themselves, and actually enjoy the process. Clients often tell me how easy and stress-free it feels to be photographed by me.

My favorite work is creative portraiture. It feels like an open canvas with endless possibilities. I love exploring different angles, looks, and expressions. When we shoot outdoors, I get especially inspired—something about the environment immediately sparks ideas. I’ll see a location and instantly picture multiple scenes, spots, and stories we can create there. With creative environmental portraits, my goal is for the viewer to look at the image and want to step into the scene themselves—to feel connected to the story unfolding in the frame.

I’ve always been obsessed with photography. I take my camera everywhere—parks, vacations, family parties, or even just a walk—because I never want to miss a moment that could become something special. But my real entry point into photography came when I started photographing interiors for my wife’s design projects. I approached it with intention, curiosity, and excitement. Shooting those spaces opened my eyes to composition, light, and storytelling in a way that completely pulled me in.

Outside of photography, I’m a musician—guitarist, singer, and songwriter. I’m inspired by all forms of art, and that naturally shapes the way I shoot. Music, design, color, and environment all blend into how I see and capture the world.

Whether I’m shooting a headshot, a creative portrait, or an interior space, I bring a thoughtful, artistic touch to every session—capturing moments and stories that feel personal, honest, and timeless.
